The Intrepid Landcare program launched in the Hunter in June 2016, with an action-packed retreat held at Glenrock Lagoon Scout Camp on 25 and 26 June. The retreat saw 16 passionate young people from the Hunter get together for an exciting weekend of Landcare activities and outdoor adventure.

Intrepid Landcare is a new program for the region that aims to connect youth, inspire change and act on environmental causes by organising projects that blend travel, adventure and environmental action.

Over the course of the weekend, participants were involved in a range of activities including planting native trees and grasslands at Burwood Beach, abseiling in Glenrock Conservation Area, meeting with local Landcare mentors, bird watching walks, local history and bush tucker presentations and a series of leadership workshops.

Since the retreat, the newly formed Hunter Intrepid Landcare group have undertaken further events together and are planning more projects for later in the year. For more information about Hunter Intrepid Landcare, see the Hunter Intrepid Landcare Facebook page or call 4921 0392.

The Hunter Intrepid Landcare Leadership Retreat was supported by the Hunter Region Landcare Network, Hunter Local Land Services, Australian Landcare Programme, Landcare Australia, Lake Macquarie City Council, Lake Macquarie Youth Advisory Council and Greg Piper – Member for Lake Macquarie.
